Many of our clients have been with us before and will know
that we give an excellent service, careful instruction, and advice on
choosing your canal boat hire route.
We set
ourselves a high standard with a comprehensive inventory, spotlessly clean
canal boats and good maintenance.
If you want any advice or have any queries do
not hesitate to give us a ring.
However, for those considering narrow boat
hire for the first time, here we have attempted to answer some
of the more common questions.
What is a modern narrow boat like to cruise?
Look before you book! Why not visit us and inspect our fleets? Choose
your narrow boat and discuss possible routes and places of interest to
visit. Please telephone first to make sure we are open and there are
narrow boats to see.
Is
everything provided on the narrow boat?
In general ‘yes’. All our narrow boats are fitted out and equipped to
the highest standard. See the inventory list
below.
Are you sure I can handle a
narrow boat? All
narrow boats have a forward gear, a reverse gear and tiller steering.
You put one lever forward. It’s as simple as that! Like most people, ten
minutes’ instruction gives you all the confidence you need, but we also
demonstrate locks and give advice on mooring, navigation and safety.
How about water and fuel?
You’ll set off with a full tank of drinking water which can be topped up
at any boatyard or public mooring. There’s no need to think about fuel
at all; there will be enough on board for your trip.
What about locks?
Don’t be concerned, locks are fun and children love them. They are
simple to use and you’ll soon get the knack of operating them.
Grocery supplies - overseas
customers only
Take advantage of our grocery service. We send you a grocery list which,
if you return to us with your requirements, will be on the narrow boat
when you arrive. This is a complimentary service with normal shop
prices, no service charge is added.
Can we bring pets?
Dogs and other pets are very welcome but please bring suitable bedding
for them. A small extra charge will be made for each pet. (Please see
Conditions of Hire).
Do
we need buoyancy aids and special shoes?
Jackets are recommended for children and nonswimmers and are supplied on
request. On board we suggest you wear non-slip rubbersoled shoes.
Where can I leave my car?
We provide parking for you for a modest charge. All vehicles left at
owner’s risk.
Is fishing OK?
Yes, but buy a licence first, available from a Post Office. The close
season is between 14th March and the 16th July.
Can
we use hairdryers and shavers?
The boat’s 12-volt system means that you’ll need to borrow a dryer from
the boatyard. Electric shavers can only be used if they have a
converter.
What is the minimum age for
hiring? Hirers must be aged 21 or over.
What kind of insurance do I
need?
For you and your family, we offer excellent and very reasonable Holiday
and Cancellation Insurances.
